Our story

The course I wish someone had handed me

I’m a Latina homesteader in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I’m in my 50s. I came up watching my abuela can tomatoes in August so we’d have something red on the table in February — and watching my mom forget half of what abuela knew because she was too tired from working two jobs to write it down.

Rooted Ready exists because that forgetting almost happened to me too.

I built this course during a year when the grocery store ran out of flour, then eggs, then formula — and I realized my kids had never seen me grow, ferment, can, or preserve a single thing on purpose. I wasn’t a prepper. I wasn’t planning for the apocalypse. I just wanted my family to remember the everyday skills my grandmother kept like a second language — and I wanted my kids to learn them without me having to apologize for not knowing them myself.

So I learned them. Out loud. With cameras rolling. With every mistake on the table.

Rooted Ready is what came out of that year. It’s not survivalist content. It’s not aesthetic homestead Instagram content. It’s the actual everyday skills — canning, preserving, medicinal herbs, seasonal planning — taught the way my grandmother would have taught my daughter if life had given them more time together.

It’s faith-grounded. It’s bilingual where it matters (Spanish recipe terms, where the older recipes lived). And it’s built so a working mom with three kids under six and a software engineer who’s never grown a thing can both finish.

Welcome, hermana. Welcome, friend. I’m glad you’re here.
